About Luis
​Luis Alvarez Roure is an award-winning artist known for his figure and still-life paintings as well as his portraits of international public figures such as composer Philip Glass, legendary Academy award-winning actor José Ferrer, Chairman of The Federal Reserve Paul Volcker, actress-playwright Anna Deavere Smith, GRAMMY award-winning violinist Joshua Bell, Opera singer and Kennedy Center Honoree Justino Díaz, and renowned contemporary classical composer Roberto Sierra among others.​

Alvarez Roure's works are in many distinguished public collections, including the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery; Princeton University; The Museu Europeu d’Art Modern in Barcelona, Spain; Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico; The Federal Reserve; The Players of New York; Palacio Santa Catalina (La Fortaleza) of Puerto Rico; Uconn University, and The Steinway Hall in New York City as well as in private collections across the U.S, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Australia.

In 2022, Luis won the Draper Grand Prize at the 24th Portrait Society of America's International Portrait Competition. His piece was also voted the favorite work among the audience receiving the People’s Choice Award consecutively. He was also a finalist at the prestigious Outwin 2019 Boochever Portrait Competition, and Figurativas 2015 in Barcelona, Spain.

His work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, International Artist Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, American Art Collector, and American Artist Drawing Magazine. His portrait of Philip Glass has been featured in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s programs extensively and it was chosen by Maestro Glass himself to be the cover of his solo piano recording: Philip Glass Solo, released in January 2024.

In 2020, Luis was given the distinction of Living Master by the Art Renewal Center Organization.

In the United States, Luis is represented by Portraits Inc., J. Daniel Portraiture & Fine Art, and Lori Polson Portraits Specialists. He is represented in the UK exclusively by Fine Art Commissions, London.
